Founded in 1624 by Edward Latymer, Latymer Upper School is one of the top leading school’s in the country with the highest Oxford and Cambridge acceptance rates of any secondary school or college. Latymer Upper School has a Latymer prep school for boys and girls aged 7 to 11 and has a sixth form where it 30 new students.

For the last 400 years, the Latymer Upper School is providing a rigorous and stimulating education to their children to give them a life changing education. They offer an extensive curriculum that prepares students for the next stages of their education, their subject areas cover science, mathematics, PE, music, coding, Mandarin and RS to MSL.

Admission to The Latymer Upper School

The admission to Latymer Upper School is depended on pupils performance in the 11 plus exam, interview, and the reference from the previous school. Parents can register their children for the entrance exam in November of the year before the entry. There is a non-refundable registration fee of £125. If your child is eligible for the learning support adjustments, you will be required to submit documents to support the same after registration. 

The exams are conducted in January. Later in the same month, shortlisted candidates are invited back for an interview. These interviews assess whether the Latymer upper school is right for the child. School references from the previous school are also considered in this selection process. Later in the same month, the selected candidates will then be offered a place and invited to attend the offer holders’ evening at the school to give them a huge congratulations from the school and welcome them.

The best way to know whether the school is suitable for your child or not is through open events. We recommend parents to attend one of the open events organised by the school. These events include a guided tour of facilities, an introduction to staff members, and an address from the headteacher. The information about these events can be made through the school’s website. The 11 Plus Exam Format of The Latymer Upper School

The 11 plus exam of the Latymer Upper School includes mathematics and English, the English section is further divided into comprehension and writing. A break of 20 minutes is given between both the papers. 

  1. Maths paper is of 60 minutes and strongly focuses on problem-solving. The questions are both multiple-choice and open answers. The questions are based on the National Curriculum. 
  2. The English paper is divided into two parts English comprehension and English – creative writing. The English comprehension is of 35 minutes. and has multiple-choice questions. 
  3. The English writing paper is of 45 minutes and marks are awarded based on good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, sentence structure, organisation, and cohesion. 

The 11 plus exam for the Latymer Upper School does not have a fixed pass mark but the average score is 100. All candidates receive an age-standardised score.
