How to register for the 11 Plus CSSE Exam

To register your child for a place at one of the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (CSSE), parents need to complete two forms, the Common Application Form (CAF) and Supplementary Information Form (SIF). The CAF form can be completed online through the Essex Council and the SIF Form through the CSSE website. The SIF Form can also be obtained from any of the (Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex) CSSE schools.

The parents will need to fill in the name of the school they want their child to get in, so before registering, it is important for parents to be sure which school they want their child to send to. We suggest parents visit the open events of their preferred school to know more about the school and decide whether that school is right for their child or not. It will also help parents to know more about the school’s admission process.

The 11 Plus Exam Format of CSSE 11 Plus Exam

All schools in Essex that are members of the Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex (CSSE) use the same 11 Plus exam to ensure that students only need to take one test. The 11 Plus CSSE exam consist of two test papers English and Maths.

The English paper includes both multiple-choice and open answer questions based on comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, creative writing, verbal reasoning, and literacy. The maths test includes question-based on topics from KS2 National Curriculum.

Test results are sent to parents in October, these test scores are age-standardised, to make sure that all students get a fair chance irrespective of their age. The places are then offered based on the merits of the selection test. However, parents must know that passing the selection tests does not guarantee a place at their desired school, as schools have different admission processes.

How to prepare for CSSE 11 Plus Exam

As we know, the maths exam is based on the national curriculum KS2 syllabus so for starting your child must be well versed with all the topics of the KS2 curriculum. Apart from that for the English exam not only practising the syllabus but developing some 11 plus skills is also important for passing the CSSE (Consortium of Selective Schools in Essex )11 Plus Exam.

To develop all the essential skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, creative writing, grammar, verbal reasoning, etc, and to focus on them all equally, you can prepare a proper study schedule.

As competition for a place in each of these schools are highly competitive, it’s beneficial if your child starts preparing early. It is also recommended that you add practice material such as past papers to your study schedule so that your child get an idea of what is he going to face in the CSSE 11 test, after a while, you can ask them to complete the paper in the timed condition.
