Located in Haselbury Road, London, The Latymer School is a selective grammar school that provides co-education for over 1300 pupils aged 11 to 18. Founded in 1624, The Latymer School is the only grammar school in Enfield and is considered as one of the best state schools in the country and was featured near the top league tables.
The school follows a very high standard within the formal curriculum to provide a first-class education that gives a broad and stimulating educational experience to children while believing that school life should be valued for itself and not just preparation for adulthood. The school motto is Qui Patitur Vincit that means who endures wins, the motto was adopted in 1910 by then headmaster Richard Ashworth.
The Latymer school has a wonderful music tradition that results in a wide range of music-making. The school conducts various competitions throughout the year where students are split into six houses competing for the house trophy, the dormer shield. The competition includes drama, arts, and sports. The school was rated as ‘outstanding’ in their last Ofsted inspection.

Admission to the Latymer School for Year 7 is based on pupils performance in the entrance exam. In case, the number of applicants is more than the number of places available the school uses the following oversubscription criteria for the admission-
- Children are entitled to Education Health and Care Plan.
- Looked after or previously looked after child.
- Maximum 20 applicants from the ‘Inner Area’ who show exceptional musical talent.
- Maximum 20 children from the ‘inner area’ who are eligible for Pupil Premium.

How to apply for The Latymer School
To apply for a place for year 7 at the Latymer school, parents need to complete two forms the Local Authority common application form (CAF) and the school’s online registration form and return the form before the school’s deadline as the late application will not be accepted.
In case parents are unable to complete the form on time, their child will not be able to take the 11 plus entrance test. Applicants will then be taking the 11 plus entrance test in early September. This entrance test will take place at Latymer at the beginning of Year 6.

The 11 Plus Exam Format of The Latymer School
The 11 plus exam for The Latymer School consists of two tests-
- First Test is for 60 minutes consists of multiple-choice questions based on maths and verbal reasoning. The GL exam board set the maths and verbal reasoning test. The first Test is marked first, and only the top-scoring 650 candidates will be eligible to have their second paper marked. The places will then be offered to the top 192 candidates based on the oversubscription criteria.
- The second Test consists of an English paper of 60 minutes divided into two sections of 30 minutes each, and the school sets it. The first is reading comprehension, and the other is creative writing.
The scores of the 11 plus exam will be standardised.
